Brothers shines in two starts, makes franchise history
Sussex County Miners right-hander Kellen Brothers has been named the Frontier League’s Pitcher of the Week following a pair of dominant starts during Week 17.
Brothers, 26, of Gridley, California, joined the Miners in 2024 and has continued to establish himself as one of the top pitchers in franchise history.
The Miners have been at their best with Brothers on the mound this season, posting a 10–7 record in his 19 starts.
Brothers opened the week Tuesday night in Trois-Rivières, Canada, with a masterful performance against the Aigles, tossing eight scoreless innings while striking out 10. He followed that effort with another stellar outing Sunday in Paterson, New Jersey, striking out nine Jackals over six innings. The Miners won both contests.
Across his two starts, Brothers did not allow a run over 14 innings while recording an impressive 19 strikeouts.
Brothers is the second Miner to earn Frontier League Pitcher of the Week honors this season, joining Rob Hensey (Week 10).
Sunday’s tour de force also earned Brothers a place in the Miners’ record book, as his 128th strikeout of the season established a new single-season franchise record.
Brothers is scheduled to make one more start Saturday, September 5, at Skylands Stadium, when he will take the mound in the Sons of Liberty alter ego jersey on Fan Appreciation Night. The appearance will mark his 20th start of the season, tying the Miners’ single-season franchise record.
