Squandered Opportunities Leads To Extra Innings Loss For Miners

AUGUSTA,NJ- The Florence Y’alls bullpen holds back the Sussex offense from a late resurgence to take the second of three contests at Skylands Stadium. The Miners looked to awaken from a 1-0 loss to the Y’alls the night before but failed to capitalize on a late flurry led by Keenan O’Brien and followed up by hits from Edwin Mateo and Hunter D’ Amato.

Kyle Harbison tops the box score for the Y’alls with an RBI single after Miners starter Christian Colmery gave up a run to Garrett Broussard and advances to second after a forceout at first in the top of the second.

Evan Webster held on for almost 60 pitches before allowing the miners to score on an RBI single when Hunter D’Amato hit a line drive in the bottom of the second. Hunter D’Amato scored on a fly ball after Evan Berkey was hit by a pitch and Gabriel Maciel came to the plate in the following at bat.

The Y’alls responded in the fifth inning when Kyle Harbison scored on an errant pitch from Christian Colmery. Brett Blomquist scored on a pop fly single RBI generated by Zade Richardson.

Y’alls’ Starter Evan Webster’s time on the mound ended after 5.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs in the third and allowing Kiko Romero a base in the 6th inning. Webster’s replacement, Jett Lodes would then allow Romero to score on an RBI double generated by Keenan O’Brien. Lodes threw 42 pitches and allowed only one hit and one walk before being relieved by Will Carsten late into the eighth frame.

Carsten then managed to survive a rally led by Keenan O’Brien, Edwin Mateo and Hunter D’Amato who loaded the bases in the ninth inning. Thanks to a couple of strikeouts and a flyout by Keenan Taylor, the Y’alls were able to push the game into extra innings and score two runs early in the 10th and hang on to win by a final score of 5-3.

The Miners’ and Y’alls are set to continue their series in Augusta on Thursday August 6th at 7:05 PM. Catch all the action live on the Miners broadcast network.
