Culver, Esquerra, Rose Go Deep In Miners Win

June 26, Augusta, NJ – The Sussex County Miners (17-9) earned their second victory in a row on Saturday night, winning 10-5 against the New York Boulders (12-14) at Skylands Stadium.

Sussex County got the offense started early, putting six runs up in the first four innings. The Boulders scratched off a few runs towards the later innings of the game, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the large deficit.

Trevin Esquerra led the way for the Miners offensively, going 3-for-4 with one home run. The team also got home runs from Joey Rose and Cito Culver on the night. Another critical part of the success for the Miners came through stolen bases.  Five stolen bags, including two from center fielder Eric Jenkins put plenty of pressure of the New York pitchers.

Max Herrmann had an excellent outing for the Miners, only giving up seven hits and two runs in six innings. The left handed pitcher moves to a 3-1 record with a 3.21 era on the season. On the other side, Ryan Munoz had a tough night on the mound for the Boulders. He went four innings, giving up six hits and five earned runs.

Jalen Miller Sr., Tyler Luneke and Robert Klinchock came out of the bullpen to finish off the game for the Miners.

The Miners and Boulders will complete their four-game series tomorrow afternoon, with a 2:05 pitch scheduled at Skylands Stadium.
