MINERS BULLPEN SLIPS UP TO DENY SWEEP OF AIGLES

SUSSEX COUNTY LOSES SEASON SERIES TO TROIS-RIVIÈRES, 4-5

The Sussex County Miners (42-50) fell to the Trois-Rivières Aigles (33-60), 5-4, on Thursday night at Stade Quillorama.

Miners starting pitcher Tristan Harley (3-4) allowed the first Aigles batter of the game, shortstop Lizandro Rodriguez, to hit a single, but completed a scoreless inning. Trois-Rivières managed a single as its only hit in each of the first four frames and failed to score on Harley every time.

Trois-Rivières starter Noe Toribio (5-8) let Sussex County take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Haiden Walters. With one out in the third, center fielder Edwin Mateo smashed a solo home run to double the Miners’ advantage. First baseman Dean Ferrara made it 3-0 with an RBI single later that inning.

A single from Miners left fielder Gabriel Maciel was the only time either team reached base in the fifth. The Aigles finally broke through in the sixth on a solo home run by designated hitter Liam Bushey. Harley checked out before the seventh with his squad up 3-1, and reliever John Perozzi quickly squandered the cushion. With two outs in the seventh inning, Bushey smashed another homer, this time with two on base, to snatch a 4-3 lead for Trois-Rivières.

The Aigles tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on a single by third baseman Drew Barragan. That run would prove to be incredibly important for the hosts; the Miners could only reduce the deficit to 5-4 in the ninth on a solo homer by shortstop Evan Berkey. Trois-Rivières relief pitcher MacCallan Conklin successfully closed out the game despite giving up two hits.

Harley was in line for the win when he stopped pitching, putting together a one-run, six-inning performance with nine strikeouts. Ferrara was the only Miner with a multi-hit night.

Toribio took the win, Perozzi was assigned the loss, and Conklin secured a save.

The 42-50 Miners have the fourth-best record in the Atlantic East Division. Sussex County finishes the season series versus Trois-Rivières as winners of four of their nine matchups in 2026.
