Miners even up series vs Jackals, Keenan Taylor comes up huge in sixth inning
Augusta, NJ: In a game the Miners needed to have to keep up in the division and playoff race, they came from behind to steal the second game of a pivotal three game home set against the Jackals with a 7-6 final at Skylands Stadium.
The Jackals quickly got to work early and proved why they’re one of the hottest teams in the Frontier League. David Glancy kicked things off with a long two run homer to left field off Miners starter Tristian Harley. Felix Stevens added to the early barrage with a solo shot of his own. 3-0 Jackals before the Miners could blink.
But this Miners team continues to fight. They created some first inning chaos of their own. Gabriel Maciel and Dean Ferrara got on base, allowing Mahki Backstrom to rope an RBI single to left field to reduce the deficit. Later on in the third, Hunter D’Amato brought in Edwin Mateo on an RBI groundout to bring the Miners within one.
Then the big moment arrived in the sixth inning. Keenan Taylor, who’s provided moment upon moment since being brought up into the roster, came up big once again. On a 1-2 count, Taylor homered on a fly ball to left field, bringing him and Backstrom home and giving the Miners a late lead.
Insurance runs would come in the form of a Gabriel Maciel RBI in the seventh inning to make it 6-3, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Keenan O’Brien in the eighth. Those runs would be crucial as the Jackals made one last push against closer Parker Primeaux. David Glancy would bring in two on a bloop single to center. But Primeaux and the Miners would hold on.
A big game three to come in Augusta, New Jersey. The Miners are coming off two valuable series wins against the Boulders and Valley-cats, and a series victory here heading into six consecutive games against the Quebec Capitales would do them the world of good. First pitch scheduled at 1:20 PM.
