Miners bats go cold, get swept by Florence Y’alls
Augusta, NJ: The Sussex County Miners drop the third game of their home series against the Florence Y’alls by a final of 4-1. They drop to 35-39 on the season and lose some ground in the wildcard race.
Jorge Garcia got the start and battled through five innings in which the Y’alls explosive offense made life difficult. It began in the second inning where the Y’alls loaded the bases. Dillon Baker’s sac fly to center field brought Zade Richardson home to make it 1-0.
The struggles continued in the fourth. Milo Rushford and Dillon Baker went yard in back to back at-bats to make it 3-0. Hank Zeisler brought in yet another to add to his remarkable tally with a sac fly in the fifth.
The Miners offense could not reciprocate their offense performance against the Lake Erie Crushers. Just like in games one and two, the Miners couldn’t capitalize on big opportunities.
Despite doubling the Y’alls hits on the night, the best they could muster was a Dean Ferrara single in the eighth to give a little bit of hope. Even then, runners were stranded in the corners. Nathan Lawson was solid in his start with seven innings pitched with six strikeouts.
The Y’alls sweep the Miners. It’s a series that they’ll want to forget as they travel to New York to take on the Boulders in a pivotal three game set in terms of playoff implications. Game one’s first pitch is scheduled at 6:45pm.
