ROLLINS EARNS PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONORS

SECOND MINER TO BE AWARDED WEEKLY HONORS

May 28, Augusta, NJ – Sussex County Miners left-handed pitcher David Rollins threw seven shoutout innings of three-hit baseball against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles, and as a result he has been awarded the Pointstreak Can-Am Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 27, 2018, the league announced today. For Rollins, it is his first such honor of the young season.

Rollins, a native of Deberry, Texas, had a 0.69 ERA in his first two starts of the season to go with a 1-0 record. David, a former Major Leaguer with the Seattle Mariners, took a hard luck no-decision in the game on Wednesday – a game the Miners would win 2-1 on a walk-off hit by pitch.\

Rolins becomes the second Miner to earn a weekly honor. In the opening weekend, Jarred Mederos earned the Pointsterak Can-Am Player of the Week for his hot hitting in the opening weekend against the Rockland Boulders. David becomes the sixth Miner pitcher to win the Pitcher of the Week honors, joining Jamie Walczak (June 14, 2015), Shawn Sanford (August 2, 2015), Kody Kerski (July 23, 2017), Gianni Zayas (July 30, 2017), and Michael Tamburino (September 4, 2017).

Rollins is scheduled to start twice on the Miners seven-game road trip. His first start will be on Monday night at Trois-Rivieres, and then again on Saturday at the Ottawa Champions.
