MINERS END SEASON WITH 6-3 WIN OVER AIGLES

SUSSEX COUNTY FINISHES 2016 CAMPAIGN WITH A VICTORY

Trois-Rivières, Canada | September 5, 2016 – Sussex County banged out 18 hits in the contest and rolled to a 6-3 victory over Trois-Rivières in the regular season finale. In the Labor Day matchup, the Miners had six batters with multi-hit games including 1B Brenden Webb who went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI. Webb was just a triple shy of the cycle. Sussex County 1B Alex DeBellis and CF Carl Thomore each added three hits, a run scored and a RBI while RF Dominique Taylor chipped in with two hits in five at-bats. Miners starting pitcher Ryan Kulik tossed a complete game and finished the season with a record of 5-2. Kulik gave up three earned runs on 13 hits while giving up a walk and striking out a career high 11 batters.

In the top of the fourth, the Miners turned a rare 5-4-3 triple play. With Aigles on first and second, 3B John Brucker fielded Jiwan James’ grounder, stepped on third base, and fired to 2B Nick Giarraputo who then completed the TP with a strong throw to 1B Alex DeBellis.

Sussex County finishes the 2016 season with a 39-61 record, good for fifth place in the Can-Am League.
