MINERS CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH

RAIN SHORTENED WIN COUPLED WITH OTTAWA LOSS SENDS MINERS TO POSTSEASON

September 2, Augusta, NJ – The Sussex County Miners (45-52) put an exclamation point on their bet regular season in franchise history by clinching the fourth and final playoff berth with a rain-shortened 6-0 victory over the Trois-Rivières Aigles (43-61) on the last Fireworks night of the season. The result, coupled with the Ottawa Champions 8-1 loss to the Rockland Boulders, clinched the playoff berth for the Miners with two games to spare.

The Miners scored all six of their runs in the first inning, with the big blow coming off of the bat of Rubi Silva, who hit a bases clearing triple to cap off the six run outburst. Miners starter Gianni Zayas would throw 5 innings to earn the victory for the Miners.

The Miners and Aigles will have two more games, tomorrow at 4:05 pm and on Labor Day at 2:05 pm. For Monday’s game, the Miners will honor any unused 2017 ticket for a ticket of equal value for the Labor Day matinee.
