PITCHING, BIG SEVENTH PUSHES MINERS PAST AIGLES

DONINO AND JACOBS HELP SNAP LOSING STREAK

Trois-Rivières, Canada | September 2, 2016 – The Sussex County Miners grabbed a road win with a five-run top of the seventh and defeated the Trois-Rivières Aigles, 5-2. The victory snapped a franchise high nine-game losing streak and ensured Sussex County a fifth place finish in the Can-Am League.

3B Chris Jacobs hit a three-run home run to blow the inning open and give the Miners the lead for good. His blast drove in 2B Nick Giarraputo and LF Jay Austin. With two on and one out, the first two runs of the inning had scored on an error.

Giarraputo and 1B Alex DeBellis each finished with two hits, with each hitting a double, for Sussex County. Miners pitching dazzled in the win, with RHP Joe Donino allowing two runs, only one earned, on three hits over seven innings. He struck out eight and earned his third win of the season. RHP Michael Tamburino tossed a scoreless eighth, and RHP Kaohi Downing performed a Houdini act to earn the save.

For Trois-Rivières, LF Connor Crane was 2-for-4 with a home run. Starter Porfirio Lopez gave up three runs on five hits and took the loss.
