MINERS DRUB CAPITALES, 11-2, TO WIN SERIES

SUSSEX COUNTY SETS FRANCHISE RECORD FOR LARGEST MARGIN OF VICTORY

Québec City, Canada | August 21, 2016 – The Sussex County Miners racked up 11 runs on 17 hits and defeated the Québec Capitales, 11-2, on Sunday afternoon at Stade Municipal. The nine-run margin of victory is the largest in franchise history and the Miners (36-49) head back home having taken three out of five games in this weekend’s final regular season series against the Capitales (49-37).

Starting pitcher Ryan Kulik (pictured) earned his fourth win of the season with six strong innings, allowing only one earned run on seven hits, walking three, and striking out four. The bullpen trio of Michael Tamburino, Jesse Beal, and Kaohi Downing was perfect in their three innings of relief.

The Miners offense fired on all cylinders. Every batter in the lineup had at least one hit and seven of the nine scored at least one run. LF Derrick Pyles continues his hot hitting ever since joining Sussex County, going 3-for-4 and scoring three runs. CF Jay Austin and SS Steve Nyisztor both went 3-for-5, scored two runs, and drove in a run. 2B Chris Chiaradio added three RBI with his 2-for-5 day at the plate. RF Carl Thomore and DH Alex DeBellis each picked up two RBI.

For Québec, starter Sean Gleason was roughed up for nine runs (seven earned) on 13 hits in his six innings of work. 1B Yeicok Calderon and LF Yurisbel Gracial scored the two runs for the Capitales.
