SERIES RECAP: MINERS FALL TO AIGLES

DROP SECOND STRAIGHT SERIES ON 10-GAME ROAD TRIP

Monday, August 6 – the Miners and Aigles traded punch for punch, as Trois-Rivieres kept finding ways to get themselves back into the ballgame. Finally, in the 11th, three Sussex County runs, thanks to a passed ball and sacrifice fly put them ahead for good. Alex Demchak slammed the door and the Miners took game one. MINERS 7 at Aigles 4

Tuesday, August 7 – David Rollins was solid through four, but a five-run fifth inning for the Aigles opened up a hole that the Miners were unable to fill. A late, spirited comeback in the final innings came up just short, giving Trois-Rivieres their first win of the series. MINERS 5 at Aigles 6

Wednesday, August 8 – Unlike the previous time the Miners faced him, Tyler Garkow completely silenced the Sussex County bats, scattering five hits over 7.2 scoreless innings. A wild pitch in the second and an RBI double off the bat of Kevin Cornelius in the sixth proved to be the difference, as Kenny Koplove was the tough-luck loser despite going the distance. Next Series: MINERS at Quebec
August 9-12; 7:05, 7:05, 6:05, 4:05
MINERS Magic Number: Playoff spot: 12; Regular Season Champions: 16

The Miners’ 10-day Canada trip comes to a conclusion with a four-game set with the second place Quebec Capitales. The Miners had some early season struggles with Quebec, but their last meeting resulted in a four-game sweep at Skylands Stadium that all but ended the regular season race. Neither team enters the series particularly hot, as the Miners have split the first six games of their road trip and the Capitales have won five of nine since they left Skylands Stadium. Though the Miners have a comfortable hold on first place, the Capitales will be playing with a purpose – a repeat performance of last time these two teams met could put them in a dangerous spot in the standings.
