DONINO WINS PITCHER’S DUEL AGAINST QUEBEC

JOE DONINO AND JESSE BEAL COMBINE TO HOLD CAPITALES TO ONE RUN

Québec, Canada – Sussex County edged Québec, 2-1, in a pitcher’s duel at Stade Municipal. Starter Joe Donino tossed another sizzling game for his second straight win. Donino allowed only one run and struck out five in his 7-1/3 innings of work. Flamethrower Jesse Beal earned the save by pitching 1-2/3 scoreless and blowing away three of the six Capitales he faced. CF Jay Austin and 3B Nick Giarraputo each went 2-for-4 at the plate. Austin stole three bases to extend his league-leading total to 27. C Alex DeBellis scored a run and 1B Chris Jacobs picked up an RBI.
The Miners improve to 18-33 and have now won two in a row. This is the first time this season the Miners have won three out of their last four contests.
For the Capitales, starter Mac Acker pitched 6-1/3 strong innings but took the loss. LF Trevor Gretzky and C Alexander Jesus both finished 2-for-4. 2B/3B Maxx Tissenbaum knocked in the lone RBI for Québec.
