MINERS DROP SEESAW BATTLE TO NEW JERSEY

JACKALS TAKE FIRST GAME OF SERIES, 7-5

June 27, Little Falls, NJ – The Sussex County Miners (17-17) dropped a back-and-forth Battle of New Jersey game on Tuesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium, falling 7-5 to the New Jersey Jackals (23-14) in front of 1,007 fans. The result is the third loss in the last four games for the Miners.

The Miners were paced by two hit apiece from Jarred Mederos (pictured), Adron Chambers, and Alexi Colon. Mederos also drove in two runs with his single in the fourth inning, pulling the Miners even with the Jackals 4-4 at the time. Mederos would eventually get knocked in by Jay Austin to give the Miners the lead.

The Jackals would retake the lead on starter Kris Regas (5-3) in the bottom of the fourth when Brian Joynt would hit a two-run single, scoring Johnny Bladel and Conrad Gregor to put New Jersey in front to stay. Gregor also hit his seventh home run of the year in the first inning.

David Richardson (3-3) worked six innings to get the win for New Jersey. The Miners weer able to load the bases in the ninth against Jackals closer Johnny Hellweg but could not score, securing the eleventh save of the season for Hellweg
