Losing Streak Mounts to Four for the Miners

Fall Into a First Place Tie With New Jersey

June 24, Augusta, NJ ­– The Miners dropped their fourth game in a row on Thursday night, losing 12-7 against the New York Boulders. New York got the offense started early, putting up four runs in the top of the first. Sussex County stayed within striking distance for most of the night, but the Boulders prevailed in the end.

Mike Castellani suffered his first loss of the season, giving up nine hits and seven earned runs in four innings. On the other side, Danny Wirchansky earned his second win of the season, also giving up nine and five earned runs in five and two thirds.

Everyone contributed for the Boulders offensively, with seven out of the nine hitters recording at least one hit. Milton Smith Jr. had a big night at the plate, going three for four with two runs scored. Jackie Urbaez did some damage with the bat for the Miners as well, going three for four with two doubles and two runs scored.

The Miners and Boulders will continue their four-game series tomorrow evening, with a 7:05 first pitch scheduled in Augusta.
