MINERS DROP SECOND GAME OF SERIES TO CUBAN NATIONAL TEAM
Augusta, NJ – The Sussex County Miners took the lead in the bottom of the first inning but once the Cuban National Team took it back in the fifth, they refused to let it go as they picked up a 4-2 win.
1B Chris Jacobs started the scoring with an RBI single that plated RF Dominique Taylor but the Cuban National Team (5-7) erased that early lead in the fourth when CF Yoelvis Fiss singled to score DH Jefferson Delgado. In the next inning, the Cuban National Team marched ahead with a two-RBI single from 1B Yasiel Santoya. Fiss, who had a game-high three hits, scored in the sixth on a double play to add an insurance run.
The Miners (13-19) drew closer in the seventh as 3B Nick Giarraputo (pictured), who went 2-for-4 on the night, doubled to score 2B Steve Nyisztor but that was the final run of the game.
