CHAMBERS 4 HITS, BAUM HOME RUN LEAD MINERS
June 21, Augusta, NJ – The Sussex County Miners (16-14) got a four hit performance from Adron Chambers, and a two-run home run from Jay Baum along with excellent pitching en route to a 2-1 win over the Cuban National Team on Wednesday night at Skylands Stadium. The win pushes the Miners win streak to six games, and they have won nine of their last ten games overall.
Chambers slashed out four singles in the game, and he reached base in all nine plate appearances in the two games against Cuba. He has now hit safely in his last five at bats, two shy of the mark Nate Irving set earlier in the season. The Miners runs came in the sixth. With one out, Rubi Silva singled on the first pitch he saw and Baum would swing at his first pitch, sending a home run over the third wall in left field to give the Miners a 2-1 lead.
Kris Regas (5-2) would pitch six plus innings to get the win. The only run he surrendered was unearned, being driven home on a one out double by Yosvani Alarcon double in the fourth. El’Hajj Muhammad, Andrew Brockett, and Kody Kerski would all combine to keep Cuba off the board in the final three innings, with Muhammad working out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the seventh. The Miners trip of relievers set down the last eight Cuban batters in succession, with Kerski getting the final three outs for his second save of the season.
The Miners go on a seven game road trip before returning home on Friday night, June 30th, against the Quebec Capitales. Tickets for that and all 2017 Miners home schedule can be purchased by clicking on the link below or calling our box office at 973.940.0222.
