SET TEAM RECORD FOR LARGEST WIN MARGIN
June 30, Augusta, NJ – The Sussex County Miners (15-14) attacked early and often in routing the Cuban National Team (4-9) by a score of 15-4 on Tuesday night at Skylands Stadium. The win puts the Miners over the .500 mark for the first time this season.
For the Miners, Juan Duran (pictured) hit his fifth home run and drove in five runs, Nate Irving had four hits and knocked home two runs, Adron Chambers reached base five times and scored four runs, and Jay Austin had three hits and two runs batted in. Gianni Zayas (4-3) threw six innings of shutout ball to pick up the win, allowing five hits. New Miner Kenny Roder also threw two shutout innings, and collected his first professional strikeouts in the contest.
Cuba would get four runs in the ninth on five hits, but the Miners outburst was too much to overcome. Alain Sanchez (0-2) only pitched to one batter in the second innings before being lifted and was tagged with the loss.
The fifteen runs that Sussex County put up matches the team record for most runs in a game, set last July at Skylands Stadium against Quebec.
The Miners next home game is tomorrow night, when the Cuban National Team finishes their two game series against the Miners at Skylands Stadium. Tickets for that and all 2017 Miners home schedule can be purchased by clicking on the link below or calling our box office at 973.940.0222.
