Miners Dugout at Palisades Credit Union Park




Rockland 8, Sussex County 5 (7 innings)

Game one was the makeup for a suspended match from May 21st. With back-to-back three-run innings in the third and fourth innings, the Boulders won the opener of a doubleheader against the Miners by an 8-5 final. After 3B Riley Palmer homered to start the home half of the third for Rockland, DH Jared Schlehuberdrove in two on a two-RBI single later in the frame. In the fourth, CF Jared McDonald hit a two-run home run, and LF Mike Schwartz checked in with an RBI double later in the inning. C Marcus Nidiffer also homered for Rockland, a solo shot in the second inning.

On the mound, RHP Alex Gouin tossed two innings for the win, and RHP Hector Nelo worked a scoreless seventh for the save.

For Sussex County, C Elvin Soto was 2-for-4 with two triples and three RBI. Nick Giarraputo and Jay Austin each knocked in a run.

Rockland 5, Sussex County 2 (7 innings)

DH Marcus Nidiffer blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, and Rockland didn’t look back as the Boulders beat the Miners 5-2 in the nightcap of the doubleheader. CF Jared McDonald added an RBI single in the second, and a fifth run scored on a balk in the fourth.

McDonald and C Alex DeBellis had two hits apiece for the Boulders in the win. RHP Bo Budkevics struck out six in six innings for the win, and RHP Daniel Carela struck out a batter in the seventh to pick up the save.

For Sussex County, LF Carl Thomore was 3-for-3 and 1B Chris Jacobs knocked in both Miners runs.

With the two losses, the Miners drop to 12-13 and are now in a tie for fourth place with Ottawa. Sussex County plays the third game of the four-game series tomorrow night at 6:30 PM. All road games can be heard live on the Miners Radio Network.
