Augusta, NJ – Sussex County set a franchise record by scoring seven runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit and defeat the New Jersey Jackals, 9-2. The Miners (10-9) collected 12 hits in the contest with four batters having multi-hit games. Sussex County CF Jay Austin and 3B Nick Giarraputo each went 2-for-5 on the night with a run scored and two RBI. Miners SS John Brucker collected three hits in four at-bats with two RBI and a run scored while C Nate Irving had a pair of hits, scored a run and drove in one. Sussex County starting pitcher Michael Suk (3-1) tossed 6 2/3 innings to notch his third win on the year. Suk allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out four batters.
The Miners took two of three to win the season’s first series against the Jackals. Sussex County improves to 10-9 and New Jersey falls to 14-6.
The Miners host the first game of the Can-Am League‘s Independent Baseball International Showcase.
