15 HIT ATTACK, STRONG BULLPEN STOPS LOSING STREAK AT 3
June 4, Ottawa, ON – Hours after the Sussex County Miners traded Steve Nyisztor to the Ottawa Champions, the Miners defeated Ottawa 7-6 in a rainy matinee affair at RCGT Park. The win ran the Miners record to 7-10, while the Champions dropped to 6-10.
Sussex County was led by a four hit performance from Rubi Silva (pictured). All nine Miners collected hits for the third game this season, with four Miners picking up multi-hit games. The man the Miners picked up in the trade, Adron Chambers, did not play.
The Miners bullpen was also stellar on the day, as the four reliever group of Gianni Zayas, Mark McCoy, Andrew Brockett, and Kris Regas all combined to hold Ottawa scoreless in their 3 2/3 innings of work. Ottawa got home runs from Gustavo Pierre and Tyler Nordgren. Raydel Sanchez (0-2) threw three innings of relief, but took the loss when the Miners scored with their International Tie Break runner in the eleventh. Brockett (1-0) got the win for the Miners, while Regas picked up the save in his scoreless inning.
The Miners come back home on Monday, June 5th as the New Jersey Jackals once again come to Skylands Stadium for a 7:05 PM first pitch. Tickets for that and all 2017 Miners home schedule can be purchased by clicking on the link below or calling our box office at 973.940.0222.
