LATE HOME RUN SINKS MINERS

OTTAWA TAKES CLOSE GAME IN 8TH

June 2, Ottawa, ON – An eighth inning home run by Brian Bistagne provided the winning margin as the Ottawa Champions edged the Sussex County Miners 3-2 on Friday night at RCGT Park in Ottawa. It was the Miners’ second straight defeat after having won six games in a row.

Michael Tamburino (pictured) had another quality start, going six innings and allowing two runs on three hits. The Miners would claw out of a 2-0 hole in the third on a Nick Giarraputo single, knocking home Nate Irving. Irving would then hit an opposite field, solo home run to tie the game at two.

Ottawa, having gotten a run scoring sac fly from Steve Brown and a solo home run from Matt Helms, would get the winning margin from Bistagne in the eighth, taking a 1-0 pitch from Gianni Zayas (2-3) over the left field wall. Alex Luna (1-0) threw a three-strikeout eighth to get the win, and Raydel Sanchez came on in the ninth to get his second save of the season.
