STELLAR PITCHING, BIG HIT LEADS MINERS
May 31, Little Falls, NJ – In a pitchers duel at Yogi Berra Stadium, the Sussex County Miners (6-7) edged the New Jersey Jackals (7-5) 3-2 behind a stellar start from Kris Regas (pictured) and a big home run from J.J. Fernandez. The Miner have now won six consecutive games, which ties a franchise record for longest winning streak in club history.
Regas (2-1) threw six-plus innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He was matched through six innings by David Richardson, who allowed one run on three hits. But with two outs in the seventh, Steve Nyisztor drew a walk, which set up Fernandez. Facing Evan Deluca (0-1), J.J. hit a two-run shot off of the scoreboard in left field, giving the Miners a 3-1 lead. When D’Vontrey Richardson chased Regas in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run, the Miners bullpen went to work to close the game out. Gianni Zayas allowed one hit in two innings, and Andrew Brockett notched his third saves in as many games to give Sussex County the win in Little Falls for only the fourth time in club history, yet the second time in as many games this season.
The Miners come back home on Monday, June 5th as the New Jersey Jackals once again come to Skylands Stadium for a 7:05 PM first pitch. Tickets for that and all 2017 Miners home schedule can be purchased by clicking on the link below or calling our box office at 973.940.0222.
