SCORE 3 TIMES IN 9TH TO WIN 11-8
May 30, Little Falls, NJ – A resilient effort by the Sussex County Miners (5-7), aided by a three-run ninth, led to an 11-8 victory over the New Jersey Jackals (7-4) on Tuesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. With the win, the Miners have now won five games in a row, and won for only the third time in franchise history in Little Falls.
The Miners got key contributions from Justin Trapp (pictured), who had a home run and four RBIs, Nate Irving, who had another three hits, Jay Baum, who had two more hits and two more RBIs, and Jay Austin, who had two hits and two runs scored. The Miners had leads of 5-0 and 8-3 disappear by the eighth inning, but a three-run ninth on five hits pushed Sussex County to the win.
Michael Heesch threw five innings, allowing only one earned run of the five that crossed the plate in his time on the mound. Silfredo Garcia (1-0) came on for three innings and got the win, and Andrew Brockett came on in the ninth for his third save of the season, and second in as many nights.
The Jackals, who had clawed their way back into the game by the eighth, got a game tying two-run home run from former Miner Johnny Bladel. But reliever Isaac Gil (0-1) couldn’t hold the Miners of in the ninth.
