BEAT JACKALS 6-4 BEHIND BAUM, BULLPEN
May 29, Augusta, NJ – Newest Miner Jay Baum (pictured) went 3 for 4, and the bullpen picked up starter Sean Bierman with a full game worth of solid pitching, as the Sussex County Miners (4-7) won their fourth consecutive game by defeating the New Jersey Jackals (7-3) 6-4 on an overcast Memorial Day evening at Skylands Stadium.
Baum was the hitting star for the Miners, as he collected three RBI along with his three hits. Rubi Silva extended his hitting streak to eleven game as he had two extra base hits and a RBI, and Jay Austin knocked two hits as well. Nick Giarraputo, celebrating his 29th birthday, had a hit and a RBI, and Mike Schwartz knocked in the other Miner run. Nate Irving smacked a single in his first at bat, which set a new Miners franchise record for most consecutive at bats with a hit at seven.
Bierman left the game after two batters due to injury, but the bullpen stepped up in support. Michael Suk threw three strong innings, followed by Gianni Zayas (2-2) and his three shutout innings. Mark McCoy would go two strong innings, only surrendering a Rylan Sandoval solo home run. Andrew Brockett would come on in the ninth and work around an error to record his second save o the season.
