TWO BIG INNINGS SINK 3-HOME RUN EFFORT
May 21, Augusta, NJ – The Sussex County Miners (0-6) got home runs from Rubi Silva, Juan Duran, and Nick Giarraputo, but two big innings helped the Québec Capitales (2-4) to an 11-4 victory over the Miners at Skylands Stadium on Tuesday night.
For the fourth time this season, the Miners scored first when Silva laced a home run down the right field line off of Capitales starter Karl Gelinas to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. The lead would expand to 3-0 when Duran came up and hit a long home run in left field. In the third inning, Giarraputo would go yard with a longball to left-center field, which expanded the Miners lead to 4-0.
Michael Heesch was cruising until the 6th, when Québec would score four times, with three of the four runs being earned, to tie the game up 4-4. Heesch would get two outs in the seventh before being lifted, and Gianni Zayas woud finish of the seventh inning unscathed. Zayas (0-2) and two relievers would find trouble in the eighth, as Québec would send twelve batters to the plate and score seven times to take an 11-4 lead. That lead would end up being the final tally for the evening.
For the Capitales, Kalian Sams would go 4-for-6 with three doubles, and both Jordan Lennerton and Marcus Knecht would have two hits and three RBIs. For the Miners, Duran went 2-for-3 with his HR and two RBI, and Heesch did earn a quality start with 3 ER over 6-2/3 innings pitched. Nolan Becker (1-0) picked up the win for Québec.
