MINERS DROP SERIES TO ROCKLAND

KAUFMAN’S 6 SCORELESS SHINES FOR MINERS

May 21, Pomona, NY – The Sussex County Miners (0-5) got six scoreless inning from starting pitcher Ari Kaufman but couldn’t hold off the Rockland Boulders (5-0) and dropped a 5-4 contest at Palisades Credit Union Park in front of 1,609 fans.

The Miners had a 1-0 lead after three innings on a Justin Trapp RBI single. Kaufman would keep Rockland in check, scattering four hits and walking two while also striking out two. But after Kaufman was lifted to start the seventh inning, the Boulders plated three runs to take a 4-3 lead, two of those runs coming on a James Roberts single. The Miners would retake the lead in the eighth inning when Mike Schwartz ripped a two run double, and would eventually score on a passed ball. But Rockland would level the score in the bottom of the eighth when Robert was hit by a pitch from Gianni Zayas (0-1) with the bases loaded. Mayckol Guaipe (1-0) would get the final two out in the top of the ninth, and Dylan Tice would double and score in the bottom of the ninth on a Marcus Nidiffer fielder’s choice.
