Ray and Vinson Earn Weekly Honors

July 23, Augusta, NJ – The Can-Am League announced today that a pair of Sussex County Miners received weekly honors, as Jayce Ray was named the Pointstreak Can-Am Player of the Week, and Andrew Vinson was named Pointstreak Can-Am Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 21st. They become the sixth and seventh Miners to earn weekly honors this season.

Ray is in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak for the Miners. The Sonoma, California native hit .409 (9-for-22) with a home run, two doubles, and nine runs batted in. His top performance of the week came in Thursday night’s game at New Jersey, in which he had three hits in five at bats and was a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Overall, Jayce is currently hitting .301 with three home runs and 42 RBIs, placing him fifth in the Can-Am League.

Vinson had one start in the week, but it was a stellar one. The Flower Mound, Texas native got the ball in the first game of Wednesday’sseven inning doubleheader against Rockland and threw a complete game one-hitter for the Miners in a 4-0 triumph. Vinson walked three and struck out four Boulders in the contest. Overall on the season, Vinson has a 6-2 record and a 3.60 earned run average.

It was the second time in Miners history that the team swept the weekly honors. In 2015, Reggie Abercrombie was selected as the Player of the Week, while Jamie Walczak earned the Pitcher of the Week honors for his seven inning no-hitter at Ottawa, the only no-hitter in Miners history and one of only 7 ever thrown in the Can-Am League.

On the season, Ray joins Jarred Mederos (May 20th), Martin Figueroa (June 10th), Rubi Silva (June 24th), and Connor Crane (July 8) as Player of the Week honorees. Vinson joins David Rollins (May 27th) as the Pitchers of the Week. Figueroa also earned Pointstreak Can-Am Player of the Month honors in June.

The Miners will begin a three-game series at the Rockland Boulders tonight, with the first pitch slated for 7:05 pm. The game can be heard live on the Miners Radio Network.
