JACOBS RECORDED BACK-TO-BACK TWO-HOMER GAMES TO END WEEK
Durham, NC | August 14, 2016 – The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Sussex County Miners INF Chris Jacobs (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 14, 2016.
Jacobs hit .345 (10-for-29) this week, hitting a double and five home runs while driving in 10. He began his week Monday at the Ottawa Champions with a 1-for-4 performance, highlighted by a two-run home run, in a 7-3 loss. After a hitless game in a 4-3 loss on Tuesday, Jacobs was 1-for-5 in a narrow 6-5 loss on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Miners were beaten 6-5 again, but Jacobs was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Sussex County returned home on Friday to face the Trois-Rivières Aigles. Jacobs was 1-for-4 with a run scored in a 10-6 loss in the series opener. Jacobs guided the Miners to a pair of wins in their last two games of the week with a power surge. He was 2-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs in a 6-5 win on Saturday. In a 4-3 win on Sunday, Jacobs finished with a 3-for-4 line that included a pair of home runs and three RBI.
Jacobs is now batting .291 on the year with 15 doubles, 15 home runs and 49 RBI in 60 games.
2016 is Jacobs’ first season with Sussex County. He has spent 10 seasons in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals systems. He played as high as Class AAA, where he appeared in 15 games with the Charlotte Knights in 2015. He posted career highs with 17 home runs and 52 RBI in 2013, a year split between the Rancho Cucamonga (Ca.) Quakes of the Class A Advanced California League and the Chattanooga (Tenn.) Lookouts of the Class AA Southern League. He was a 17th round draft pick of the Dodgers in 2007 out of Glenn High School in Kernersville, N.C.
