ALL-STAR ARRIVES IN FOUR PLAYER DEAL WITH TROIS-RIVIERES
November 17, Augusta, NJ – The Sussex County Miners bolstered their lineup by acquiring All-Star IF Daniel Mateo from the Trois-Rivieres Aigles on Friday in exchange for OF Alexi Colon, RHP Kody Kerski, and RHP Daniel Carela. The move adds one of the more potent bats in the Can-Am League to the Miners lineup.
Mateo, a fan favorite in Trois-Rivieres, hit .300 in his three-plus seasons for the Aigles. A 2016 All-Star selection, the switch-hitting Mateo had 35 HRs and 211 RBI in 311 games for Trois-Rivieres. Daniel has established himself as one of the tougher outs in the Can-Am League, as his 152 strikeouts in 1195 total at bats in an Aigles uniform can attest. Mateo also played three of the four infield positions last season in Trois-Rivieres, with most of those appearances at third base.
Colon was in the lineup in 82 games for Sussex County last season. The outfielder hit .265 with 4 HRs and 28 RBIs for the Miners. Alexi also swiped 14 of a Can-Am League team record 163 bases last season.
Kerski was a solid starter for the Miners last season after starting the season in the bullpen. Kody went 6-5 with three saves and a 4.10 ERA in 24 appearances, 12 of those coming as a starter.
Carela settled into a long relief role last season in Sussex County. Daniel would end up 1-0 with a 3.11 ERA in 37 2/3 innings pitched out of the bullpen.
