Miners Third Baseman Martin Figueroa

June 11, Augusta, NJ – The Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball has announced that Martin Figueroa was named the Pointstreak Can-Am Player of the Week for the week ending June 10, 2018. It is the first Can-Am weekly honor for Figueroa, and he becomes the third player to receive a weekly award for the first place Sussex County Miners.

For the week, Figueroa was 8-for-18, a .444 clip. He had two doubles, one triple, and nine RBIs during the six-game span during the past week. He also had an On-Base Percentage of .542 and a Slugging Percentage of .667 while only striking out once in 25 plate appearances.

Overall, Martin’s .391 batting average puts him at the top of the Can-Am League in that category. His 17 runs scored is tied for fourth in the league, six Hit-By-Pitches is tops in the league, and his .505 Ob-Base Percentage is also tops in the league. Figueroa has also swiped seven bases on eight attempts and brought a steady glove to third base since his switch over to the hot corner earlier in the season.

All of this has helped the Miners to the top spot in the standings with a record of 15-8. The Miners also tops the Can-Am League in team average (.282), runs scored (148), RBIs (122), bases on balls (108), hit batsmen (25), sacrifice flies (13), sacrifice hits (13), stolen bases (55), and On–Base Percentage (.388) all while having the 2nd fewest strikeouts (130).

Figueroa joins Jarred Mederos (May 20 Player of the Week) and David Rollins (May 27 Pitcher of the Week) as weekly Miners honorees.

Figueroa and the first place Sussex County Miners are next in action tomorrow morning at 10:35 am when they take on the Rockland Boulders in a school day doubleheader.
