MINERS BATS SILENCED BY JACKALS

WELL PITCHED GAME GOES AGAINST SUSSEX COUNTY

August 20, Augusta, NJ – The Sussex County Miners (38-45) could only manage two infield hits against the New Jersey Jackals (49-38) this afternoon at Skylands Stadium, and fell to their in-state rivals 4-0 in a Family Fun Sanday outing in front of 1,517 fans.

Miners starter Gianni Zayas pitched well for the Miners, going six and one-thirds innings and  allowing five hits. But the three earned runs credited against him was a three-run home run off the bat of Adam Martin. The Miners bullpen pair of Alex Demchak and Steven De La Cruz did not allow a run over the final two and two-thirds innings. Lee Sosa (9-2) threw six innings for New Jersey, and three relievers came on to stifle the Miners bats and take the final game of the series.

The Miners got help from the Quebec Capitales, who throttled the Ottawa Champions by a score of 15-0. The results mean the Miners still hold a two and one-half game lead for the fourth and final playoff spot.
